TARA

What is TARA?

The TARA is a non-subject specific test and is used in a range of subject areas. If you are applying to UCL, you must check the university webpages for your chosen course to see if the TARA is required.

Test format

Module Questions (Timing)
Critical Thinking 22 multiple choice questions (40 minutes)
Problem Solving 22 multiple-choice questions (40 minutes)
The Writing Task One essay style question, selected from a choice of three. Word limit of 750 words. (40 minutes)

When is TMUA and when do I register?

There are two TARA test sittings: one in mid October (booking starts in late July) and one in mid January (booking starts in late October).

When should I prepare for TMUA?

The focus of the TARA is on generic skills essential for undergraduate study. You do not need subject specific knowledge, so the best way to prepare is to familiarise yourself with the test format and style of questions. We recommend that you read the test specification and answer the specimen test under timed conditions.

We recommend students to attempt mock tests and resources early, as this would provide useful information for their academic capability and admissions chance for specific courses.

When will the test results be out?

Test results will be out approximately four weeks after taking the test via your UAT-UK account. There is no pass or fail for TARA.
